Project 365 Finds a Bit of KC in CT

This past week, one of my best friends from Kansas City came to Connecticut. It was so good to have a bit of home all the way out here. I also went to New York for an AmeriCorps retreat.

Enjoy the pictures!

Day 321: The dorm room we stayed in at the AmeriCorps retreat in New York.

Day 322: Enjoying a special breakfast at the retreat.

Day 323: On our way back from our service project, we were pulled over by a cop. Our driver got a ticket. Thankfully we were able to laugh about it.

Day 324: One of my fav foods right here. Yum.

Day 325: Enjoying Chaplin, CT, a very different world from my beach side town of residence.

Day 326: Hunting water lilies!

Day 327: Eating breakfast with Seth! Easily the best part of the week.

See you all next week!

Review of LOST HAVEN by Sabrina A. Fish

It's been a little while since I read a book worthy of reviewing. Then my close friend and author extraordinaire, Sabrina Fish (find out more about her here) came out with a young adult novella called LOST HAVEN. I literally read it in a single sitting because I couldn't put it down.

So let me tell you a little bit more about the book and where you can find a copy of LOST HAVEN.

Here's a short synopsis of the book:

"In the near future, a few young women manifest extraordinary abilities called "Shine." Each girl's ability is different. Some develop extraordinary mental abilities. Some become physically strong. Others have powers that defy description. But the world does not embrace these Shines. It fears them.

Camille’s life hasn’t been the same since her parents' traumatic murder-suicide. In the aftermath, an intruder breaks into her home. Camille discovers a mysterious thumb drive hidden in her father’s office and realizes the unwanted changes in her life are just beginning. Caught in a spider's web of politics and conspiracy, betrayal and abduction, Camille is about to discover that the world is changing and hiding is not an option. Not even for Shines."

Sound interesting? It should. Sabrina's writing is beautiful. Her characters are well-drawn and extremely likeable. They don't read like super heroes. They read like real people with real lives, struggling with real problems. If you're looking for a summer read that you can breeze through whether you're on the beach, curled up at home, or braving a plane ride, this is the book for you.

You can buy the print version or the Kindle edition at Amazon.

Sabrina's book is the 7th in the SHINE series. I can't speak for the other volumes, but the BEST part of Sabrina's story is that it stands alone! You don't need to buy any of the other books in order to enjoy hers! Since I tend to be a pretty picky book reviewer, my vote is to stick to this and only this volume. Check out some of my past reviews on other great books to read this summer if you're hungry for more reading after LOST HAVEN.

You can find some other books I recommend at the following links:

COLD FURY series by my dear friend, T. M. Goeglein
FEARLESS by the amazing Cornelia Funke
THE 5TH WAVE (one of my favorite books from last year)

Plus, I'll be reviewing a book each month this summer. Stay tuned for reviews from authors Tamara Grantham and Angela Archer. You should see author interviews by them as well.

I'll see you next time, readers!
